NeuroStar is a type of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) therapy—a non-surgical, non-invasive, and non-medicinal mental health treatment.
TMS therapy uses magnetic fields to stimulate parts of the brain that regulate and control emotion, mood, and behavior, which are lower functioning in patients with mental health concerns. As NeuroStar stimulates these brain areas, it improves the brain activity in these important regions, allowing our patients to experience relief from their depression.
One of the most common questions our patients ask Dr. Awosika is, “How long does it take before my TMS therapy treatments start to work?” Many of our patients seek this treatment because their mental health condition is resistant to medication and other therapies, so they want an effective treatment that offers rapid results. We understand how important it is for you to achieve your results quickly.
While patients at Pinnacle Behavioral Health usually experience symptom relief at the end of the six- or seven-week treatment course, some patients experience positive changes much earlier. In NeuroStar clinical trials, some patients reported feeling relief from their depression and OCD symptoms as soon as after the first or second treatment session. However, even if you experience positive benefits early on, we strongly recommend completing the full treatment course. This is the course that was studied in clinical trials and is known to offer long-lasting, enduring results. Completing the full NeuroStar treatment course as intended ensures that you will have the best opportunity to optimize your NeuroStar results and experience sustained, long-lasting relief from your mental health symptoms.
NeuroStar Advanced TMS therapy is designed to be progressive. Each session builds upon the last, gradually stimulating the brain’s neural pathways to develop lasting positive changes in mood and behavior. Therefore, it is essential for patients to commit to the entire NeuroStar treatment plan for the most optimal benefits.

Important Safety Information
The most common side effect is pain or discomfort at or near the treatment site. These events are transient; they occur during the TMS treatment course and do not occur for most patients after the first week of treatment. There is a rare risk of seizure associated with the use of TMS therapy (<0.1% per patient).
NeuroStar Advanced Therapy should not be used with patients who have non-removable conductive metal in or near the head. NeuroStar Advanced Therapy has not been studied in patients who have not received prior antidepressant treatment.
